I haven't read any of the responses to your post yet - I will, but first I wanted to answer without being influenced by anybody else.

I too am in my 50s, and I too think some of the moderating decisions I've seen here treat us like schoolboys.

- On one occasion I made a compliant about someone else, not me, being unfairly treated and it was completely ignored.

- On another a moderator publicly ticked someone off for a Canon vs Nikon post - which broke no rules but he used the "bashing" rule as a disingenuous excuse. How can you hold a discussion about Canon without comparing with Nikon (or whoever) from time to time?

- On another, my own post about Samyang vs Canon T/S lenses was moved from the Canon Lens forum to the Third Party Lens forum (i.e. oblivion) for no logical reason. Discussions don't always fit into neat pigeon holes, so moving a question about bags to carry an EF 600/4L from the lens forum to the accessories forum (this example is hypothetical) would be ridiculous because it needs specialist Canon SLR lens knowledge. In either of these cases, the rules actually specifically state that cross-posting is permitted so I could have posted my Samyang question quite legitimately in both forums.

- The funny thing is, my extremely irritated reaction to having my post moved (which does break the rules) is still there in the Third Party Lens forum! Different Mods of course.

I notice there are quite a few posts from Moderators in this (illegal) thread. I'll go and read them...

...would expect that everyone would agree with the moderators' decisions on all things.  The problem is that when individual decisions cannot be discussed in public (in a dedicated forum, in my opinion), it doesn't allow for the situation to be improved.

For example, let's say a mod made a bad decision.  As it stands, it's just a PM exchange between the mod and the affected party, and the mod holds all the cards.  They may realize their decision was wrong, but now pride prevents them from admitting and correcting the error.

On the other hand, if the affair were public, the mod would be more obliged to "suck it up" and do the right thing.  On the other hand, the mod might stand their ground saying that the tyranny of the majority does not fly.

But at least make it public for all to see.
