Here is a photo I cropped from nearly 20 years ago with a very very basic 35mm film camera. Poor IQ but I think it is still great and captured the moment. I had to crop as the lens was anything but telephoto.

Yes, I'd put catching the moment ahead of IQ if forced to choose.  When I went from what was, effectively, P&S (an Agfa Optima) to then-high-end (Oly OM1) my output took a dip for a while because I had to think too much about technique.

Here are two of my moments.  First 1971 (Optima, scanned from slide)

Silbury Hill, Wiltshire

Then 2012 (K-5, DFA100/2.8)

RHS garden Wisley, Surrey

I picked these for their shared subject: my son Lou, now himself a proud father.
