If I was a marketing student, the K01 would be a good university Case Study.  Was the lack of sales due to:

  • Unconventional design?
  • Being too large for a mirrorless?
  • Lack of features?  ie. no EVF
  • Poor performance?  1 fps in RAW, slow AF.

While I own the camera, I wouldn't have purchased it at full retail because of a lack of EVF and poor performance.  The secret of this camera is that it reminds me of the K100 in that it is great at manual shooting and IQ is great.

The lack of general acceptance is likely related to a combination of the features above.  Pentax unfortunately can't afford to many moves like this as they seem to be gradually fading in relevance in the industry.
