Wireless Remote Shutter Trigger

Is there any good functional reason to get a wireless trigger like this:

That only has shutter fire and fire w/ 2 sec delay?

Can the "fancier" one change settings wirelessly (this is for a NEX-6), or is it mostly just for playback once photos are already taken?

Ideally, I wish the playmemories smart control functioned more like the gopro smartphone app where you can control all the settings, but obviously we aren't there yet. Just looking for something to take long exposure shots and portraits while traveling.
