Alpha 58 in kit form only?

Hello, I am just writing to see if my understanding is correct that you can only buy the Alpha 58 together with an 18-55 lens. I am hoping not. So far, both the Alpha 500 and 550 that I bought in Canada were only distributed by Sony Canada in kit form.  It is not clear to me why Sony would insist that people wanting to move up, like me, to a different model should be forced to buy a lens they don't always want or need. I have just checked the web-site for Henry's, one of the bigger camera stores in the Toronto area, and I see that you can even buy an entry level Nikon 3100 body only and, as a long time Sony Alpha user, I am hoping that this is not a return to the bad old days when Sony insists on selling what they think people should buy instead of what they want to buy.
