I feel that this was such a potentially interesting idea ... not quite cooked properly

the design wasnt my thing but its what they missed out that made it fail not the concept

Either an articulting screen and/or 1.4m dot EVF

Phase detection autofocus

More practical design

I still think this is a winner. I am sure they can make it less " big" looking ... but i dont believe the main thing about CSC is size FOR EVERYONE ... much better for video ....no mirror slap .... so many things and I think eventually AL cameras will go this way. If we were starting from here with Digital the mirror would never have entered into it at all .....

So how many out there would have bought a rethought K-02

I agree.

The K-01 is a Hoya-era model, so I imagine as a Ricoh-era model a K-02 would incorporate Ricoh tech.

To start with, the twin phase-detect sensors of the GRD IV. Ditto the snap focus feature. MODE 2 focus-peaking. Heck, the whole Ricoh GUI.

These can all be implemented right now to release a K-02 tomorrow. Unfortunately Ricoh is just as bad as Pentax when it comes to video, which is an important feature for any liveview-only camera, so they'll need development time to overcome these shortcomings, especially in-video focus-peaking for me.

Anyway, in my opinion, the K-01 isn't a CSC and was never meant to be one so it was never going to win any comparisons against CSCs when it comes to size. It is a DSLnR (non-Reflex) to use SLR lenses. With only the K-01 as its sole member so far, it's hard to see it as a separate category though in itself at the moment. But it's inevitable Canon and Nikon will release their own DSLnR models eventually purely for cost reasons (hence likely entry-level) so this category should become more defined.
