New MacBook Pro or look for a late 2011 Model?
Feb 26, 2013

Hi Everyone

My trusty Duo Core2 MAcBook Pro bit the dust recently(BlackScreen) and I need to buy another one. I only use it for tethered shooting on location and do all of my post processing on a Mac Pro.

I was just going to buy the newest(without Retina), when someone told me that you can't swap Ram and Hardrives like I could(and did) on my old one. Is that the case? From that standpoint, would a late Model 2011 offer more possibilities?

I'd hate to buy a new one, have the ram or drive go bad sometime  and then be stuck with a major repair bill from Apple for something that used to be a relatively easy do it yourself project.

Thanks in advance for all replies
