Need Advice to shoot concert with Canon SX40

For interiors band/concert shots, time  the performer's movements, don't shoot until he/she reach the height of a movement, like raising an arm & then shoot & shoot a lot of shots. also hold your breath as you click the shutter, this will minimize your own body movementyou will have some keepers & some that will still be blurred. this photo, even with a press pass was approx.50-75 feet away from the stage & lit with rotating, multi colored gels. I braced myself against a wall  exif below: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v104/Buckl/COMMUNITY/PICT1.jpg

By using the dreaded " P " mode  I did not have to stop,& calculate manual settings which in that mode the camera could compensate far faster then I could allowing me to focus of the shots.
