Does anyone have any suggestions on macro shots with 105mm 2.8?

I recently bought the 105mm macro 2.8 vr Nikkor..  I  am a little bummed I didn't get the 16-35 4.0 but it was cheaper and farming season is coming

I recently have been reading that people use this lens for getting close ups.. not necessarily macro but real close up.

Any suggestions..

I have a d7000 so it's cropped.. Also I No speedlight.
