The only 3 things you've got are the DR of the scene in front of you, the DR of your camera, and the way you want the final image to look. If the scene has high DR, a higher DR sensor will allow you to capture more, allowing more options to achieve the look you want. You might not need it, but it does no harm whatsoever to have it. It's THAT SIMPLE.
