You have hit on the problem exactly.  I take lots of photos of sailing boats on the water, and need to use a high shutter speed to stop the action, and to stop the motion of the boat I am on. Lighting changes dramatically depending on which way I am looking (in to, cross or with sun).  Using the OVF only in A mode I can find that I have blown a shot completely as the X10 will take the shot, but at too slow a shutter speed (because of the limit).  If I close down to 4.5 or more I can find that I may reliably get the shots, but some may be at too slow a shutter speed.  Coming from a DSLR I am finding it difficult to get to grips with this quirk.

Unfortunately the LCD is largely unreadable in the light conditions I am talking about (even with shading), and the beeps are not audible (even at max volume)

Surprisingly it seems that using P gives a wider range of aperture/shutter combinations, but P of course introduces its own problems as without viewing the LCD I don't know what it is doing.

I am hoping that the viewfinder on the X20 will solve all of these issues, assuming of course that I don't give up and just use the V1 for this type of shot, with its faster AF, longer lens (30-110 = 80-290mm) and 60fps possibility (just joking on the latter, I hardly ever use the burst mode on X10)
