Sony or Tamron

After a lot of reasoning, I decided not to buy the new Sony 70-400 G ( I don't have the "old" one either ). I'm sure it's an even better lens than the current, but mostly due to its hefty weight it's almost prohibitive for my use, at least 85% handheld. I have an excellent Sigma 70-200/2.8 II EX HSM plus a dedicated Sigma 1.4x TC = 98-280/4 ( no loss of IQ ) but at 1.43 Kg I'd like a lighter option for some brighter days' outdoor use.

So now the question: Sony 70-300/4.5-5.6 G or the new Tamron 70-300/4-5.6 Di USD ? The Sony would be the "natural" choice, and I've also seen excellent comments on the Tamron. Now, my choice became harder since until Feb 28 the Tamron is on sale for US$349.00 ( 100.00 rebate )!! Too good to ignore!
