SX50 - RAW Birds
Feb 25, 2013

Hi all,

After a little more than 3 months of shooting the SX50 exclusively in JPEG, we've just begun trying to process a few first RAW (CR2) images. These were converted and minimally developed with DPP which I've never used before, then finished in Photoshop.

Northern Cardinal (male)

Manual mode  ISO80  1/250  1200mm @35ft

American Robin (male)

Manual mode  ISO80  1/200  1200mm @25ft

Carolina Chickadee

Manual mode ISO100 1/400 1200mm @16ft

Tufted Titmouse (portrait)

Manual mode ISO100  1/160 1200mm @15ft (@70% crop)

Northern Cardinal (female)

Manual mode ISO80  1/200 1200mm @12ft (@90% crop)

I've just published a brief blog article with some initial impressions about shooting the SX50 in RAW which may be of interest to some here.

I don't really have a RAW workflow I'm comfortable with yet for this camera however, and hope to try some other conversion softwares soon. So any observations or comments about the processing on these would be appreciated.

And of course we hope you enjoy the birds,
Kenn
