Thanks for your observation, which is spot on. The shoes were masked and the BG pushed half a stop to get the bright white on it. The shoes were pushed a tad to get them to the edge of over-exposure to get the max pop factor. So the histogram looks a little stacked at the light end.
This was an experiment to see how m43 performs (coming from years with Canon) in this situation and to try some workflow options, which was Aperture and Pixelmator (which is a joy to use btw, but not yet a PS killer, although I understand there are a couple of significant updates in the pipeline that might get it close!)
