I purchased a used D50 several years ago for one specific characteristic: it does not filter out infrared light. When fitted with the proper filter to eliminate other wavelengths it can record good images. I use a tripod, focus without the filter first at f8 then add the filter and shoot. There is some focus shift between regular light and ir but it is not noticeable at f8 or above.
