What will be coming from Canon and when ?

There are several reasons why Canon is not rushing to the sensors your are referring to.

1, Image quality: Cameras make images. A camera is judged by how good the images look, how efficiently they can be taken, how good cameras feel in the hand, how well built they are, (in case of DSLR) what are the lenses available, how good is the after sales service and the cost. Let's say 'how good images look' is the most important consideration here. What do people think about image from Canon cameras? Most people think they are as good as those from any other brand. A substantial number thinks they look better. Only a tiny minority thinks they look worse. Why do you think Canon should worry about the minority? There are many people who believe that 5Dc has the best IQ of all DSLRs. Try them showing all the graphs you have and all the numbers you can remember. People don't care about QE, read noise or how many microns or yards wide the fab line is. If they did Canon would be making lemon juice or selling porno now. Guess what, in DSLR and P&S market Canon continues to dominate with their 'old' technology. They make cameras that make great images.

2. DR. Majority of the Canon users think more DR would a good thing, but they are hardly limited by what Canon has to offer now. After using D600 for several months, I struggle to find a scenario where its higher DR would be useful compared to my 5D3. D600 is much better in shadow lifting or shadow detail compared to 5D3, but its far from perfect. You will still need filters or HDR for those difficult situations if you want the best results.

3. High ISO performance: More people care about high ISO noise than DR at base ISO. Canon has this well covered.

4. DXO, graphs, numbers etc. Let's say 5D3 scored 81 and D600 94 at DXO's scoring system. If we randomly pick two pictures (same subject, same lighting, same photographer, same processing etc.), one from 5D3 and one from D600, do you think one will have 81% IQ (100% being perfect) and the other 94%? Or 94% of the viewer will consider one as good compared to 81% for the other? Or in 94% of the situations one sensor will do well compared to 81% for the other? Photography is about images, not about numbers, scores and graphs. Canon knows what photographers want or need.

5. High MP. Only a small minority needs or wants it. Canon knows that. As a matter of fact, most people think 12-16mp is more than enough. But Canon will come up with one, higher than D800. Sensor technology is not rocket science anymore. For Canon its a business decision rather than 'stuck in middle ages'. They will get one from Sony, Toshiba or other vendor if they feel the need and if they can't make it themselves in a profitable way.

6. Your L lenses: I am sure you can take great images with your L lenses now if you put your mind to it, instead of thinking that higher MP would make your pictures look better. They won't. Use them now.
