Top myths in photography

Oh, I wouldn't call him my "chosen guru"; for the most part he merely explained, quite eloquently, concepts I already knew or suspected as a professional software engineer.

I dread to fall to an "appeal to authority" fallacy, but if you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living? if you're a scientist or an engineer I may try to read through the relevant standards and see whether you have a point after all (though I really dread to do so; documented standards are hardly bedside reading material), but otherwise... well, let's just say I was burned quite a few times on the topic of DOF, by getting dragged to online "discussions" where the other participant was a complete ignoramus armed with only slightly more math than an online calculator, and I'd really dread to start all over again on this new topic.
