The amount of light captured is the same on the same sensor area regardless of how many pixels that area is divided into, and the same light means the same shot noise.

Is this analogy accurate?

I thought that the better analogy would be to use marbles (for photons)

So that just for simplistic arguments sake, if only one photon entered an area of 4 wells only one well would capture it leaving three with nothing but noise (75% noise for that area?). But if a sensor with a larger well that covered that same area as the 4 smaller ones, it would capture the photon and have no noise?
