glossy monitor screen versus matte?

my main NEC art monitor has a nice non glare screen. I want to pick up another monitor to use for general viewing, net surfing, etc, so I can save the expensive NEC for just doing art and photo stuff. Most of the off the shelf monitors have glossy screens, which are very reflective in the store due to the bright lighting fluorescents there.

do you find glossy monitors to be ok for home use or is the gloss annoying most of the time? non-glare screens are much more pricey I have seen.
