Thanks Oscar, other tuning techniques are always welcomed. IMO, whatever works for someone and is the easiest to perform is the best method for them, so I encourage others to try the method you describe as well.
I do want to mention two two issues I see with that procedure though. First is that on Nikon bodies the AF system will intermittently nudge the lens during AF acquisition even when it's at critical focus and even when the configured AF tune value is already at the optimal value (I mentioned this in your other thread on this procedure). The second issue is that even for cases where the lens doesn't nudge during AF acquisition, multiple AF tune values can result in non-movement of the lens, the same as how a range of tune values can produce positive confirmation in the VF for DotTune, which is what necessitates finding the midpoint of those AF tune values to arrive at the optimal tune value. Even though a non-midpoint tune value may work well enough in many situations, for some it might produce inconsistent focus, for reasons I describe here.
