I cannot get PhotoPro 5.5 run

When I start up SPP I need to leave the machine alone while it is starting up.  If I try to do anything, like close another window during the startup, SPP crashes.

Additionally it displays the message "not responding" during the startup process, until it finally goes full frame and starts working.
