I think my 50 1.4 is back or front focusing a little, and I was trying to find the right value for fine tune in camera. I had a few questions on how to do this correctly. When I setup my tripod, how far should I be from the printed charts considering this is a 50 mm lens and testing @1.4 aperture. The plan was to focus using Live view, take pictures, do the same using view finder compare the focus, then use the electronic range finder to find front or back foucs, and play around with different values till i get close to live view results.

Also to test for the D800's left AF points how should I do that. Any tips or guides will be really helpful.

Exactly I have the same problem, together with my newly bought 20/2.8D. Well all images were out of focus with my D800:-x
