Spec says it still have 15.4M pixels - more like 1.25x crop to me.
My understanding is to give 2x zoom - the resolution needs to go down to 6M pixels.
Or did Nikon meant the shutter speed got boosted 2x?
Let's say you have the 50mm lens on.
You get the 1.5 crop factor due to DX (over FF) so you now have 50x1.5=75mm equivalent.
Further to that, optionally, you can have 1.3 crop factor (over the DX) so you end up with 75x1.3=97.5mm
or 97.5 / 50 = 1.95 (or 2 near as dammit) from your original 50mm
In other words, the combined crop factor over FF is 1.5x1.3=1.95

Might have been a little clearer if Nikon had just called it a 2x crop mode, but then I guess someone would have gotten confused by that.
