bouncing with the built-in flash only works if you can reach the ceiling with your arms extended or if you have a wall in back of you.

a small trick that might work though is by sticking a small piece of white paper or aluminum foil wrapped around a business card behind the NEX-6's flash so there's at least something for the flash to bounce off of. Or wear a white t-shirt.

I went for the HVL-F20S, which does tilting for bounce flash, but in a venue like this, it's useless

still much better than directly shooting the flash!
