I like the fact you can set shutter speed in aperture mode with the D7100. The limited buffer of 8 RAW files is definitely a step back from the 20 RAWs in the GH3 buffer which I am always using with birding. The 1.3x crop fact is also very interesting for the bird photography I do, but the cheaper long zooms from Nikon are not that great at the long end. Here is the 55-300 you suggested along with the 100-400, compared to the Olympus 75-300 (Panasonic lens not tested yet).

Maybe when Nikon improves their long zooms to where they can take advantage of the higher pixel density sensors then it might make more sense. Right now the 24mp sensor without AA filter would go to waste unless you spend $5k+ on a birding lense.

This is why you need to look at lenses first before looking at bodies.

Yes, 55-300mm is probably not the best example. With very small size/weight impact one can choose 70-300mm, which should be better:

There is also Nikon 1 system that can use Nikkor lenses. I sometimes see great bird pictures on Nikon 1 forum.

I'm in hotel and now internet became horribly slow here. Hard to read forum and post comments. I hope everyone enjoys this little discussion.

And I honestly don't think Batman will kill Darth Vader. With some help of talented Nikon engineers Darth Vader could fix and improve his Death Star so it's weapon precisely focuses on Batman, otherwise it's hard to catch him without C-AF tracking. Then Death Star must be able to annihilate Batman.
