How durable/weather/environmental proof is the NEX 6 and/or NEX Lenses

My NEX 6 is my first foray into the big boy camera arena, so just trying to get an idea of how durable these things really are. I know it is not a weather-sealed body or anything, probably not meant to take a beating like the pentax dSLR's they show getting buried in the sand in Iraq and then rinsed in a shower.
I usually baby all my gadgets/electronic devices about 10x more than the average person, but I also do most of my shooting while hiking, on the water, at the beach, etc. Is it ok to have the camera out in a light rain? Should I keep it 100 miles from the nearest sandy area? What if it takes a short fall?
Like I said I am extremely easy on my equipment, but I am trying to get an idea of where I need to be extra careful and where I am just being paranoid protecting the equipment.
Thanks
