There is the place for D400 here (maybe named D9000):

D7100 has 24 MPx, 6 fps and 7 fps by 2x crop (1.3x of DX).

D400 will have new 20 MPx sensor, 9 fps and 10 fps by 2x crop.

7D Mark II will have 10 fps too.

--------------------

D400 will cost $1800.

--------------------

D7100 has buffer for 9 compressed 12b RAWs and 6 lossless compressed 14b RAWs.

D400 will have buffer for 40 compressed 12b RAWs and 30 lossless compressed 14b RAWs.

(D600 has 27/16 !!!!)

--------------------

D400 will have D300/D800 body with professional ergonomy.

--------------------

MAYBE: D400 will have on-sensor phase detection (as Nikon 1) for fast sharpening in LiveView and 15 fps in LiveView mode and hybrid viewfinder OVF & EVF as the test of the mirrorless future.

Based upon that logic - It's also possible that a D700 replacement could appear.

It's possible that a D400 could surface; however the D7100 is being called the Flagship DX by Nikon over here .

Right now - as of today, you can buy a refurbished D600 for less than $1800.00 here and here.

From a pricing standpoint that doesn't leave much room for a D400 at $1800.00

Perhaps Nikon is saying if you want pro build and specs - "buy pro" ?
