This is not your DX400 but let's see what they say this summer.

Now how many Social Security cheques do I have to set aside for this little middle class DX cam?

Buffer only holds 7 RAW images. Price is US$1199

That's true only for lossless, compressed, 12-bit. Lossless, compressed, 14-bit is 6 images. Compressed 14-bit is 8 images and compressed 12-bit is 9 images. When shooting in the D7100's 16mp DX crop mode, the number of images is respectively, 12, 8, 11 and 14 RAW images. I can live with this.

LOL, I missed the footnote on the buffer size. Can I live with 14 frames  of 12 bit compressed RAW in 1.3x crop mode? For my subjects I rarely shoot more than that in a burst and seldom do strings back to back.... but it's still an uncomfortable limit. So is  7fps.  Guess we wait again.

Reminds me of the closing scene in the movie Mondo Cane.... haunting image of a torch lit "runway" constructed in the wilderness by the natives of New Guinea..... standing there waiting each night  for the return of the Man.

I guess we wait again too... for the D400.
