At first sight… this is a just another marketing experiment from Sony: They offer two new candy but remove two others... an expensive and incomplete model, indeed.

Instead of adding more or better features to the previous models for enhancing them, as it should be, Sony just adds few, not so useful, but sonorous new features and eliminates others... just in order of catching incautious people who are prone to purchase impulsively hooked by big numbers as 20Mp and 50X, none of them being such as useful nor great enhancements over previous models as they sound.

For outdoor and wildlife photographers like myself extra focal length is always welcome and will be used. Even if it takes extra effort to get good IQ at the long end.

Slight change in MP I don't care one way or the other, however. I can live with that and it does add a little more resolution potential. Probably will turn out to be a plus.

Faster AF that's claimed would be a very big plus.  Surprising how many folks skipped right over that.

Looks like they are also claiming better stabilization, also a plus even if it's just incremental improvements over the HX200v

Still trying to figure out what two features were removed that are so earthshaking. Is it video, which for me is something I have no need for.

Note I'm not in any rush on this one.  I'll spend my time comparing it to my current HX200v. Just as I did comparing the HX100 to the HX200v when I rejected the HX100 for a poorer feature set.  Were I not a owner of the HX200v I expect the HX300 would be near the top of my list.

We are past huge improvements in each generation of digital cameras.  More like small incremental improvements are what to expect and it sounds like that's what Sony has done.
