Looking forward to hearing the outcome Marianne.

If you'll pardon a slight topical deviation, I discovered last night, when measuring the fine-tune adjustment ranges for several lenses with my D800E, that the Default setting has much more authority with fast lenses (f/2.8 or faster).

Apparently, Nikon have set up the lens-specific scaling for fast lenses, so that there's more adjustment resolution when doing a lens-specific tuning, but this reduces the adjustment range available.

Using the Default adjustment instead (which requires deleting the fine-tune entry for the particular lens) gives almost 2.5x wider range of adjustment, e.g., an f/2.8 or faster lens that needs -20 lens-specific fine tune would only need about -8 on the Default scale. Even for f/4 lenses, Default has a little more authority - about 40-50% more.

Old thread, but VERY useful to know, thanks once again. Have read all your comments. Invaluable.
