Photozone "review" (cough!) of 18-135
In reply to dboeren, 3 months ago

Klaus at Photozone had a bad copy of the lens.

He sent it to Pentax Germany and they told him it was within spec.

Amazingly, Klaus has never bothered to test another copy of the lens.

The above facts reflect badly on Klaus and Pentax Germany, but they do not mean the 18-135 is a bad lens.

As with most lenses, most people get good copies while a few get bad ones, with some of the latter owners apparently more interested in complaining about it than in returning their bad copy for a good one.

I have the 18-135 and like it very much. It's very good for a moderate superzoom, especially considering that it packs weathersealing into such a compact and lightweight lens.

It doesn't hold up to my Tamron 17-50/2.8 and 28-75/2.8, but no one in their right mind would expect it to because they are in a very different class. Strangely, some of the 18-135 complainers expect it to compete at that level of IQ, comparing apples to oranges.

Happy choosing!

Greg
