Why Fuji camera hardware so expensive??

Hi everyone. I am very new to Fuji equipment, i recently bought a S3 and S5PRO and for what i do i am very happy with this top notch cameras. I recently sold my Nikon D7000 and yes, sometimes is good to have a high ISO capable camera for certain purposes, and although i currently DON'T need one, i have been paying more attention to the XE-1 and XPRO-1 cameras all of you mention here and i am reading and seeing that they have EXCELLENT ISO and AWB performance, and perhaphs in a near future i might just buy one of these.
My question is, why these cameras and lenses SOOOO expensive? I mean, the also EXCELLENT Nikon 18-55 VR lens alone on the street cost me $80 dollars and new is only $199. My also EXCELLENT Nikon 35mm 1.8G only cost me $199 new. I haven't had a chance to go to a store and see for myself, but why are the lenses so expensive too?? Are they metal or more rugged? Do these Fuji lenses have a built-in motor in them or do these cameras run them?
Regarding the cameras i do understand that they are made of metal, not sure up to what extend, so i can understand that i would be paying for "quality" on the cameras and not necessaraly "size". I can tell these camera bodies are very small compared to the bodies i am/have used in the past, so i can definitely see that Fuji is saving money and not wasting it on the material for a "bigger" camera size. Again, why so expensive??
