Canon 6D en EF-S lens fit

Hi

I bought a Canon 6D camera last week.  Unfortunately I didn't realize that I can only use EF lenses on the body.  I try to fit one of my EF-S lenses to the body and only picture a black photo.  I was so in shock and phone the supplier where I bought the camera only to be notifying that I can't use an EF-S lens on the 6D camera

QUESTION

1. Did I hurt my 6D camera when I fit the EF-S lens to the body.  I am so upset because there was no warning on the packaging that it couldn't be done.  HOPE YOU CAN HELP ANSWER ME AND IF I COULD HAVE DAMAGED SOMETHING - FOR WHAT MUST I LOOK OUT FOR.

2. Is there a converter to the 6D camera so you can fit your EF-S lenses?
