well, count it this way ....  that is, a high proportion of mirrorless market are hell bend for compact package over all, and this lead to the issue here. It pretty much force the Mfrs to limit their choice of design. Of course its possible to made a decent zoom as stated, but likely for it to be viable it will be either fairly slow, expensive or having to sacrifice on lens performance or very likely all of the above ( as typify by Oly's 12-50 bundled with the OM-D ). And likely it will still be not compact enough to please the gang. So the Mfr figure they will just go with the slow kit zoom ( well its at the very least compact ) Or go with pretty performing fix focals ( those who choose to use fix focals are usually more tolerant about the size/weight/bulk issue ) .

As for the NEX-7, well until someone come up with such a lens, then its either LA-EA1/2 with some alpha lens or the said Metabone adapter. Know this, a 16-80 on NEX is asking for plenty of coverage and zoom. Personally i think this is stretching the spec a bit too much. A 16-56 / f4.0 OSS would be a lot more practical
