Making a picture - not just the techy bit ;-)

Landscape photography has been a love of mine much longer than I've worked as a professional commercial photographer.
A lot of what I look at in photography is quite technical, with lens movements and multiple image stitching, but when it comes down to it, what do you actually photograph?
Well, after a recent talk at a camera club (I do a few every year in the UK - for free), someone asked me just what it was about a picture that led me to make a print of it, as opposed to the myriad of similar shots I could take at the same place.
I've been looking at all the shots I took at a particular location, right from stopping the car at what looked a nice view (yes, probably exactly what I thought at the time , through to processing and editing the image for a print.
I hope the description of the process for this picture is of some interest...
