The Canon at 1.2 is still $1500 and is only one stop faster.

It's only a third of a stop faster and its optical qualities are shaky at best.

Optical qualities are shaky at best? I used to own a 50 1/2; it's a phenomenal lens. You ever own one personally?

No, but I used one for nearly 2 weeks in the US last year on a 5DmkIII. Those 2 weeks pretty much confirmed what Photozone found in their tests on FF. Extreme vignetting at larger apertures, quite a bit of CA and corners sharpness that leaves a lot to be desired. Let's just say that I wasn't impressed based on the pricetag and my own reference, the current Sony 50 (based on the old Minolta) for which I paid 4 times less. Maybe it works better on APS-C like my 50mm, haven't gotten the change to try that.

I used one as well with the MarkIII. Vignetting is easy to clean up in Lightroom;

That's true, but you add up to about 2 and half stops of noise in return. Which partially negates the benefits of a large aperture lens.

I found build and focusing most impressive (minus a bit of focus shift between F2 and F2.8).

But if I had been allowed to keep one, I would have kept the 85 II instead. One can dream..., altough, the weight of the set had a price too...
