Sony's new lens pricing

Shields3, When the Sony 70-400 was released at, as I recall, $1700, it was at least in the same price range as the Canikon offerings. Both the Canon and Nikon versions are old designs, badly in need of update. Reviews consistently rate the Sony slightly higher than either the Canon or Nikon lenses (except for color   ) If indeed the new version of the Sony comes in at $3000 i think it's safe to say it is no longer competitive, price wise, with either of those lenses. It had better be more than slightly better to justify the price, and even if it is, it will be out of range for most casual shooters. Tamron and Sigma will certainly benefit though.
