You have to consider these things for yourself, but if it were me, and having been to Peru, I'd go OMD. You do a lot of hiking there, and I mean a lot. And it's at altitude, and unless you're from altitude yourself, you're not going to be accustomed to it, no matter what kind of shape you're in. So I really recommend lightening your load, and the OMD will do that quite nicely. Plus, it seems to be one great camera, and if you choose your lenses well, you can get some great stuff. I would recommend going with something nice and wide, by the way. I had my e620 and 12-60, and often wished I had something wider.

If you're still planning your Peru trip, do be certain not to limit your stay in the Andes to Machu Picchu, and take a nice long time in the Cuzco area. It's unbelievable.

Haven't been to the Galapagos, but I'll bet there's a lot of walking there too.
