I wonder how you will like the forthcoming RX-2. I will feature a generic hot shoe, an EVF, and will be compatible with 2 different series of lenses, one being the E-mount and the other being Full Frame.
Personally I don't think I'd like it because as I said I don't like Sony, it would probably be a bit large for me, and it would probably be too expensive for me to want to jump into.
Large? The RX1 is only a tiny bit larger than the XZ-2 and X20. For a full-frame camera it's absolutely tiny.
Plus, would I like the IQ over other cameras? I've never been a fan of Sony's IQ although their sensors have been very good in Canon and Olympus cameras.
Not a big Sony fan either, but IQ is great in ALL the cameras using Sony sensors - i.e., Nikon D800, D600, and the legendary 16 mp Sony Exmor found in the Pentax K-5, NEX-5N, and Nikon D7000. I'm not sure why Canon cameras use Sony sensors, but the 16 mp and 24 mp Sony APS-C and the 24 mp and 36 mp FF Sony sensors are likely the best performing sensors we've ever seen.
Yes the Sony is the size of a PEN camera with kit lens. So if you're putting it in a square cardboard box you'd need the box to be about 5 x 3.2". Most of the cameras above would fit in a box only 2" deep and wouldn't require a case protruding off of my body enough to feel small.
If you are saying that 5" or PEN cameras are large in comparison to P&S cameras with collapsible lenses that's a whole other matter. But I'm not sure how 4.5 x 2.8 can ever be considered "large" at all. But I suppose on the m43 Forum small size seems to be the number one requirement of all cameras.
Agree.
But you are aware that the RX1 is actually smaller in dimension than the EM-5, the camera that the OP is comparing the RX1 with? The EM5 is 4.8 x 3.5 x 1.7" (12.19 x 8.89 x 4.32 cm). Mount an Olympus 17 1.8, you now have a larger camera than the RX1 in every dimension.
True but the larger height does accommodate a VF, as well as being required by the new IBIS. If you add a VF to the RX1 it would be taller, and is there IS?
So it's difficult for me to hear a camera with a 35 f2 lens designed to cover a FF sensor that has the dimensions of 4.5 x 2.6 x 2.8" (11.4 x 6.6 x 7.1 cm) described as "large".
Indeed. This is very difficult to understand given the declaration of "objectivity". It's everything but objective. Then again something that expensive should expect a few violent attacks...
