Bashing high MP counts is quite fashoinable at DPR....

.... and has been ever since Phil Askey started perpetuating the "more mega pixels mean more noise" myth back in the days of the Canon 20d. It became popular for "those in the know" to bash any new camera because of their ever increasing resolutions.

All the while, cameras have continued to offer higher ISO's, less noise and greater dynamic range even in the face of these higher & higher mega pixel counts.

Yeah, people complain that they never print over 4x6 and that these new high MP raw images are crippling their win 3.0 486's/ Mac cx's and that they'll be force to trade in their 512MB CF cards. For these types, there is only one solution and I wish Canon or Nikon would introduce it.

The 1 pixel camera!!! Think of it! Absolutely noise free images. Tiny file sizes! So easy to PP. Full dynamic range! Perfect color control, just use pantone spot if you are concerned. And finally, scalable to any print size w/o loss of quality.

I personally think the d800 represents a breakthrough in digital photography, Nikon is on the right track and Canon is not at all. And I am a Canon guy (7d, also decried for high mp).

Let the MP haters hate. They can hang out with the "I don't PP because a non processed photo looks exactly like what I saw crowd."

There is simply too much beauty in the world to photograph it all, but I'm trying.
