Hi Rich,

Glad this brings back memories for you. I thought a few folks would recognize the name. Yes, we left Eaton Canyon nature center in Pasadena on a popular trail/fire road to Henninger Flats. The route was the first driveable road built into the San Gabriel Mountains around 1925, the Mount Wilson toll road. The first hour was like a freeway with lots of hikers out on a warm sunny Sunday. Once we got past Henninger Flats we only saw a few people. There was a group of 3 young people looking for the same trail, backpackers who were going to stay overnight. I hadn't done this trail before and was looking for it too. We passed one trail chute down that did not look right - too soon and heading back out. Luckily I had the topo' map with me and the 5 of us studied it together. Then we knew we had to hike up and over the saddle we were looking up at across the ravine. Ten minutes later we found the right trail. The 3 kids met family already at the campground. My wife cooled her heels in the stream while I took a few shots of the waterfalls.

It's a beautiful, rugged and remote place. I'm glad we finally made it there.
