I would have to disagree with that (though I'm sure the vast majority would agree with you).  The inability to print a raw file is a software issue, not an issue with the format.  Every raw file contains image data and a default "recipe" for adjustments to that data (contrast/sharpening/white balance/etc).  If the method to apply that recipe was standardized, a raw file could be treated as any other image file.

But that's not the intent of raw files, and camera companies aren't exactly eager to release their format information to the public, and so raw conversion is not standardized.
