Even some of the cheapest lenses outresolve current sensors, badly. Which is quite ironic, since people ask for and keep buying better lenses, some very expensive, only to completely waste them on low resolutions sensors.
Sorry I don't buy this. When you can measure and -see- the softness of some lenses compared to others, they all are not all out resolving the sensor. Maybe this was true years ago but with the D7000 D800 pixel densities, some lenses just are not useable and many are crippling what the camera can produce.
Like I said before, it's highly possible the poor technique "dumbs down" better optics for some people and they should just stick with low end glass.

you buy it or not, he is correct. when same lens is used with two different sensors w.r.to pixel density, the higher pixel density sensor will alwyas resolve more. May be you won't realize the full potential of the higher MP sensor, but it will still return higher resolution numbers compared to lower MP one.
BTW, I use a D7000 and never found any need of insanely good techniques and I don't even use a VR lens. off course I use a tripod during my dawn and dusk landscape shoots, but I would require a tripod for any camera in those conditions.
