PS CS4 - change in upgrade policy

I just discovered that one can no longer "jump two versions" (i.e. PS4 to PS 6) as they have allowed for years !!  A real bummer, as I am now faced with a $600 decision, which at my age (retired ) is not likely or shift to Lightroom 4 and use my NIK plug-in's.  Anyone else in this boat?  B&H has a discount on LR4 good only through today that I might try - if any of you agree !
