Actually, it is the other way around. The gap between m43 and APS-C is totally insignificant, in every possible way.

Sorry but I dont see it that way. Combine the high ISO performance with DOF disadvantage and M43 is not even close to APSC. The OM-D is the absolute best by far and while it might compare favorably to a Canon its not even in the same zip code as a Pentax/Nikon/Sony (read Sony sensor). Do a dxo Comparison of OM-D, K-5II and Canon 7D.

Compare the DPR test charts and again, no contest.

High ISO and DOF advantage of APS-C in comparison to m43 is minimal, and anyone not satisfied with m43 in that regard would go full frame, not APS-C.

I think you should compare them again, if you ever made that comparison in the first place (OMD sensor is also sensor made by Sony, btw). Mentioning DPR, do you actually care what is our hosts opinion about these questions ? I don't think so, but here it is:

"The E-M5 can't completely overcome the light capture disadvantage brought by its smaller sensor, compared to APS-C, but it reduces it to the point that it's irrelevant for almost all practical purposes. At which point we think its size advantage, in terms of both body and lenses, will outweigh that difference for most uses. If you're absolutely unwilling to compromise on image quality then spending twice the money and moving up to the bulk of full-frame is the only way of gaining a significant step up from the E-M5."

What best sellers has to do with anything ? Olympus 45mm f1.8 is fantastic lens for the price, that's why in high on the list. Someone may get the impression that there is no normal to wide lenses in m43 system because of that. That is just not true.

http://www.four-thirds.org/en/microft/lens_chart.html

Don't forget m43 is young and will grow even larger.

So in the "normal" range for primes there is one 40mm (eq), one 50mm and one 60mm...and nothing in between. Only the 60mm is made by Oly.

Are you blind or what ? Take a look at lens chart again. There are 8mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 45mm, 60mm, 75mm primes. Now go to slrgear and take a look how those lenses perform.

And I will say it a third time, they dont scale. You are locked in to M43. Worst case you can use Pentax lenses on a Canon or Nikon (or even a M43!) but you cant use an M43 on anything else.

You can say as many times as you want, it that doesn't mean it's wise - it's not.

Can't use them anywhere except on another manufacturer body

In m43 you have unique case where two camera manufacturers shares the same mount, and their lenses are completely compatible between bodies. With adition to that, you can mount any native (big) 43 lens (via either Oly or Panny adapter) and it will work as any native lens, but with slower auto focus (slower than m43 - not useless). Where can you use Pentax lenses and have auto focus other than with Pentax (APS-C) body ?

Why would you do that when there is almost no difference between m43 and APS-C in IQ ? Why would you go for two cameras instead of one ? Full frame and m43 (or Q) system together makes sense, but there is no sense for someone who need something small with killer IQ to have two such systems - m43 is the perfect solution for such demands.

Don't get me wrong here, I think K-5 is fantastic camera, to me more compelling than CaNikon counterparts, and much more interesting to some people than the OMD - but the reasons you listed here are completely incorrect.

Now its about a 25% difference but no one is putting either camera in a pocket. Lets not pretend the OMD is THAT small. its still a big camera compared to an iPhone. And when we start making IQ tradeoffs for size that is the standard. If good enough it good enough you had better be offering iPhone like size.

As we all concluded (me, DpR, and any other review site on this planet), the OMD is small enough to have a size advantage without significantly compromising IQ (in comparison to APS-C). If THIS is not enough good for you, the only way up is to go full frame.

Now compare the OM-D to the Q - http://camerasize.com/compare/#289,190

The Q is something you can put in a pocket - maybe not a jeans pocket but certainly a jacket pocket. If I am giving away IQ for size, I want to get my moneys worth in the size department. Some of the Panasonic cameras give you that small size but the sensor is MUCH worse.

You are right, The Q is in totally different league there.

I know lots of people like M43 but for me I care about still picture image quality over all else. Making a camera smaller is not the be all end all for me. I LIKE the size of the K-5. I like it better with the BG3 The OM-D is too small for what I want a DSLR for and too big for what I want a pocket camera for. But that is just me.

You obviously had never handled an OMD or it's RAW file. I suggest try one, you would be surprised.

Again, the K-5 (any version) is a fine camera and obvious choice for many dslr shooters, but your reasons over m43 format are completely wrong.
