Give mirrorless 1 to 2 years of development and there would be very little reason to get a DSLR for anything and I think the major camera makers know this is the growth market. Its a 2nd camera for the DSLR enthusiast and its a step up from Point and Shoot photographers.

This is a bit of an exaggeration don't you think? "Little reason to get a DSLR for anything" in 2 years seems like you're exaggerating a bit.

Except for fast action / sports, where I agree soundly that a DX action i.e. D300 / 7D camera is the most logical (for those who cannot afford D4 / 1DIV), and pro shoots like weddings, glamour, landscape and events, I agree that the mirrorless are going to take over for enthusiast and amateur markets.

The images that people are bringing using the NEX 7 / NEX 6 are VERY impressive.

I'll certainly agree that mirrorless is going to aggressively eat into more and more of dSLR sales as time goes by. I'm probably going to get a NEX-7 or EM5 myself, but won't be using it for sports. Don't you wonder what Nikon is thinking about all this? Certainly, they realize that the CX sensor in the Nikon One doesn't measure up to the mirrorless options with larger sensors.

I agree that I cannot fathom their approach either re D300 / D700 replacements. As you say, THAT is one area that WILL sell buckets even with the competition in cheaper mirrorless options, their lower end DX is the one that will suffer. On the CX, I wonder if they simply misjudged market and NEX / OM-D has taken them by surprise?

Remember early on some wondered what Oly were doing rehashing OM series. But look what has happened, it is a huge success and I suspect we will see more in that line now (back to film days of a couple/ few Oly OM's?).

And the NEX. I remember early days seeing the 5 without viewfinder, though great but not without a viewfinder. Now the 7 and 6 are stealing the show.

I think Nikon / Canon were caught napping by Oly and Sony.  That is all.
