Nikon responds- "rapid deterioration in the market occurred and fiercer competition"

It was certainly more than a "few" months, then ONLY because RG held their feet to the fire with multiple articles and proof, (many on the Canon forum castigated RG) and only then after the forums on dpreview went ballistic. And it was hit with the D3. That was a launch Canon would just as soon forget. And don't forget the black circles.

Now, having said that, Canon DID fix all those items. still waiting on nikon..maybe thay have, but you would think they would tell people
