Hello Joe

I think this is going to be impossible for you to find the answer you are looking for here. outside the strange assertion about low light betweeen the S95 and the K7 , here are some reasons why .

I only mention the S95 because it is a great performer indoor but it also has a F2 on the wide end which helps a ton over the kit lens on the K7. My original thought was to buy a couple fast primes or a fast zoom but I decided if I'm going to reinvest that I should start with a better sensor.

the two systems are very good but very different .

1/ OVF. Versus EVF. The Omd evf is very good indeed. That being said , in long use , it is NOT. As comfortable an OVF and the K5 is very good. The ONLY way for you to know if you can like the EVF. Is to try it for yourself.it is worth mentioning that the size difference once you add the first half if the grip on the OMD. Is not that big

Good points and the EVF with its advantages is also a little distracting for action shots. I tested this out with my kids in the store. I would probably opt to use the back LCD more given that fact. Also with the OM-D I probably would need the grip because the shutter release is just a bit awkward but I could get used to it.

2/ lenses selection. What focal lengths do you need for you? That should be a deciding factor. Some of the so called primes for the pentax were made for 35mm so the resulting fical length is not that useful on the k5 aps sensor. And if weather- sealing is important to you , please keep in mind that the olympus choice in weathersealing is VERY odd and limited in the first place

I think at least 2 fast zooms (16-50 and 50-135 / 60-250 or equiv in m4/3) and a couple primes 31, 77 with the Pentax I would be looking at mostly DA glass or DA* with maybe a limited unless I can avoid LBA

3/ how often and how big do YOU. Print ? The sony sensor in the k5 ii is superior to the one if omd especially above 400 ISO but if you want to show, pics on the internet or do not print abive 8x10" , you won t see the differences

I don't print beyond 8x10 "yet" but as I expand into the hobby I would like the ability to print bigger if I manged to get that one shot...

4/ image ratio. I know not many people speak about this but for me this is one of the main reasons to choose one versus the difference. The3:2 ratio of the pentax is much more rectangular than the 4:3 ratio of the omd. This entails very different compositions . If you shoot a lot of verticals ,the difference will be very big. Some people would argue that you can always crop BUT there is a big difference between being able to crop and having to crop each and everyone of your images

not sure on this one...

5/ user interface. Again two different beasts here. The omd is VERY customizable but requires a learning curve. since you have the K7 , the learning curve would be easier on the k5. Again handling both is going to be the only way to decide what works for you

agree....although playing with the OM-D I think I can learn but some things are more intuitive with the Pentax

hope this helps

big help!! thanks a ton!!

The grip makes a huge difference to the handling, if you get a chance try it out with the grip.
