I doubt that Sony are going to release the NEX 7 replacement in 2014, that would be too late. The NEX 7 came out in August 2011. Sony didn't manage to launch the NEX 7 successor at this year CES .... which doesn't mean that they will defer the launch till 2014.
I still think that, unless Sony intends to scrap the "E-Mount" and opt for the CSC system that would utilise the standard Sony/Minolta lenses .... using the full frame sensor in the NEX range would be impossible. The camera body would need to be much larger, hence defeating the reason for the CSC. You might just as well bring out smaller range of DSLRs with the fixed Pellix mirror. Thus achieving similar results to mirror-less camera [like NEX 6, 5R and 7].
Sony is going to stay with APS-C format sensor ... and possibly hike up the number of pixels, whilst improving the processor to keep the low level light sensitivity in line with the current levels of APS-C 16 MPx sensors.
What I would like to see is the electronic filtration over the unfiltered Sony sensor. So that you can use the electronic Infrared setting ... rather than sticking the IR filter on the lens, or having Sony to reset the camera for Infrared photography. I would like to see the electronic filtration draw [similar to the mechanical filter draw used on mirror lenses] and the sensor left unfiltered. Fuji already use the improved filtration on their sensors ... so for Sony to go one step further, by having user selected electronic filtration ... would be the win-win situation.
I wouldn't bet anything against Sony on a NEX FF with E-mount. They have already done it with a videocam and they have said it can be done within the framework of a NEX body, slightly larger perhaps, depending on what else they want to include in the body. Will they be happy with the results? We'll soon see. However difficult it may be, I wouldn't say "impossible" as you have.
That depends on your definition of "slightly larger" ! The NEX 7 was already larger that all other CSC cameras on the market. If the replacement camera reaches the size of the smaller DSLRs ... why not then use smaller DSLR and stick in FF sensor and Pellix mirror to give it less vibration and higher speed. Why bother with the large CSC camera and separate line of lenses. Personally, anything bigger than NEX 5R is too big for CSC. The NEX 5R would be the ideal compact system camera "if" the external Sony EVF came substantially down in price ...
