Joe,

The OM-D (EM-5) is a fantastic "all-around" camera and a great body on which to build a system from. In your stated purpose, I don't think you can go wrong with an OM-D.

It's focus tracking isn't great however given the ages of your girls, it will be fine. There is a lot of talk around m43 shooting sports and how a DSLR is better; it is better if you get the right body however what a lot of people tend not to tell you is that to get good indoor sports shots, you really need the associated glass to go with it. The Canikon 70-200 2.8 glass is great however its also $2,100 plus for the glass added onto $1200-$2000 for the body. I think that good focus tracking in m43 is only a matter of time and by the time your girls are doing a sport that requires faster tracking, it will probably be there and you know how out of date these bodies get

My kids were big into hockey so for years I shot Nikon. The D300/70-200 was my weapon of choice for this. I had a pretty big investment in glass (I bought mostly FF glass as I planned on going that route) but picked up an OM-D to "try it out". I was really tired of carting around a full size DSLR and heavy lenses so thought I'd try the OM-D. Much to my surprise, the OM-D was a far better all-around camera (for my needs). I was getting better high ISO shots, and the size was in the just right category  I ended up selling all my Nikon gear (kids were done with hockey) and I have never regretted it. I used the funds to fund a m43 lens selection - 12-35 2.8, 45 1.8, 75 1.8 and a 100-300. I also picked up a couple of flashes (FL600).

I can now carry my whole kit in a bag that would be a tight squeeze for the Nikon and one lens and I honestly haven't enjoyed photography this much for a long long time.

G'luck with your decision and let us know how it works out for you!
